In this WK Evening Meeting, Dr Ishani Rao (GP trainee and EM Dr at MTW) discusses the possible benefits of pursuing a plant based diet and lifestyle.

My name is Dr Ishani Rao and I am a GP trainee and emergency doctor at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells trust. I have been vegetarian since the age of 10 for ethical and moral reasons but vegan now for 5 years for environmental and sustainability reasons. I am a keen member of Plant Based Health Professionals and the brilliant Worldly Wise mentoring scheme. I love to eat cake, to attend vegan events and to work on ocean conservation projects through scuba diving and building artificial coral reefs. I often talk at well-being festivals such as Vegan Camp Out and have a specialist interest in mental health. Recently the best-selling plant-based magazine in the UK published one of my articles, and I recently published a charity book called 'National Health Stories: Tales from the Front Line' which is available in Waterstones. I had a rescue pet Vietnamese pot-bellied pig until recently who grew up with my rescue dogs and chickens at home in Spain.
