PITstop courses for General Practice Nurses working in Primary Care.
Kent and Medway Primary Care Training Hubs have successfully commissioned additional PITSTOP courses for General Practice Nurses working in Primary Care.

Spirometry Training from Refresher to Qualified Professional
Spirometry Refresher:
This course is suitable for all clinical staff (Nurses and HCAs) who have previously attended formal spirometry training before the pandemic, and will provide them with updated guidance on the subject.
This course is suitable for individuals who currently conduct spirometry in the workplace.
Spirometry for Qualified professionals 2 day course – 4 cohorts:
This course is designed for Registered Professionals (excluding Nursing Associates). Training includes:
- Update on the National Register of HCPS undertaking and interpreting spirometry
- Performing quality assured spirometry including verification/calibration, physiological controls, infection control and standardisation of a safe technique Interpretation of spirometry results using % predicted values, volume-time curves and flow-volumes curves
- The use of case studies, practical sessions and visual aids to consolidate learning.

Spirometry 2-day (Qualified) 07.2021
Spirometry for HCAs 2 day course – 1 cohort:
This practical course is specifically aimed at HCAs and will provide an overview of the key elements of patient preparation and safety and the importance of accuracy and reproducibility and testing.
- Update on the National Register of HCPS undertaking spirometry
- Performing quality assured spirometry including verification/calibration, physiological controls, infection control and standardisation of a safe technique
- Competency Assessments

Please note you will need to collect and return a spirometer for the practical assessment of the 2 days courses from a central location.
